Sheryl Posey, SSP is a Licensed School Psychologist with 22 years of experience spanning two states and all levels of schooling, from Pre-K through high school. Whether through evaluation, parent education, coaching, or psychoeducational groups, her focus has always been strengths-based and child-centered.
Ms. Posey completed her graduate degree at Illinois State University in 2001, while working in a group home for children with significant mental health challenges. She has since celebrated with athletes at the Special Olympics and has attended the graduations of students who never believed they would walk across the stage. Ms. Posey has worked with children with varying levels of need, including significant medical or behavioral and emotional challenges, low incidence disabilities, ADHD, autism, and learning differences.
When a social emotional curriculum did not exist for children with intellectual disabilities, Ms. Posey used her knowledge of child development to create lessons specifically for the children in her school. She is a fierce advocate for inclusion and began a facilitated play program for students with special needs in her elementary school. Her patience, empathy, and caring nature help her connect with children and motivate them to do their best.
Child Assessment and Services
Ms. Posey’s specialties include assessment for all educational needs, including learning disabilities and giftedness. She has over 20 years experience with teaching social skills, including social thinking strategies for children with autism. Her interests include executive functioning strategies and interventions, and she recently created a series of parent education seminars to assist children with executive functioning challenges. Her experience in the educational systems of both Florida and Illinois make her an exceptional advocate for children.
Community
Mrs. Posey serves on the board of the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association and is a proud member of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and Florida Association of School Psychologists (FASP). She has been on the board of FASP and was integral in planning an all virtual conference during the pandemic. She is passionate about educating her local community about neurodiversity and executive functioning to better help parents support their uniquely talented children.
